How to Use Rudd 'Roots Parents

Parent advocates can use Rudd 'Roots Parents to learn how to improve the food in their children's schools.

The Preparation Worksheets contain lists of questions and research topics. Use the worksheets as a tool to:

  • Help you understand the current state of things in your district;
  • Consolidate information that supports the need for the initiative; and
  • Prepare for possible opposition to the initiative.

The Track Your Progress Worksheets provide a tool to help you document your progress.

Studies and Model Practices: Rudd 'Roots Parents features a continually updated list of studies and model practices that relate to each initiative. Parent advocates can use the latest research and examples from other districts to support their arguments in favor of change.

Before selecting an initiative: We recommend that you review a) the Advocate Effectively page for an overall strategy, b) your district's wellness policy and other policies to see if they already include language that supports the initiatives you're considering, and c) the Prioritize Your Goals page to help you decide where to start. . If the initiative isn't addressed in any policy, be sure that your goals include adding a new policy or amending an existing one. Without a written policy to enforce the changes, there is no guarantee that they will remain in place.
